Chemo - Day # 1 & 2

Chemo Day (yesterday) went well. The staff at the Juravinski Clinic are very nice. Last night went quite well. I woke up several times and felt a little queasy. Scott brought me some crackers in the early morning and that helped. This afternoon I started experiencing some abdominal pain. Hopefully, we can get this under control soon.

We did run into a snag with one of the drugs that I need to start taking on Friday. Our drug company would not automatically approve it. It takes ten days for approval. At a cost of $1606.00 every week of chemo (16 of them), we weren't about to pick up the bill. Staff worked hard to get something in place, and late today (Thursday) we received the necessary bridge financing. Scott was able to pick the drug up today - lots of trips to Hamilton this week!

We so appreciate the wonderful support of so many friends and family. The Lord has allowed us as a family to go this way - not without purpose. Though we face challenges, He shows us in many ways that He is near and brings answers to our needs. We affirm that He Is a Good God.

Hi Joy!

Just by way of introduction, I know your wonderful daughter Andrea who I met through a mutual friend of ours.

What a wonderful and sweet person your daughter is and I believe that has to be because of her wonderful parents. I met you and your husband one Sunday night at Williams Coffee Pub when I had attended a Sunday night service at Freedom House. I have talked to your husband on the phone when he has called Promise Keepers Canada.

Joy, I just want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers constantly. We do serve an awesome and wonderful God .. He continues to amaze me with His love, mercy, grace, and more ...

Jeremiah 29:11 is the verse God gave me about 6 months prior and through to my news of uterine cancer and surgery. He knew and gave me all I needed to come through that season in my life.

Ny prayer for you is that you will know that you know He is with you and your family. I believe that God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ask or think, accordingly to the power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory forever.

Standing with you in the faith and power of God Almighty and His Word,

Love and blessings,
Jeannette

Hi Joy, Diane here.
I first heard about your bresat cancer from Cheryl and have been in touch with her re updates. So very sorry you are going through this physically, it is not pleasant, but spiritually it can have great rewards. I'm sure you heard that I had a mastectomy & hysterectomy this year(May & July). God gave me such peace and His strength it was wonderful. If I had to go through it alone, it would have been so hard. My husband was always there for me too. I did't need chemo which must be very hard to go through, as Cheryl knows. Take care of yourself and only take one day at a time. Leave all the emotional stuff in His care and you look after the physical. You are right-GOD IS GOOD. You are in my prayers. Love Diane

Hi Joy,

This is Ashley Chapman (now Fowkes). I got an email from Ashley Hickton with a link to your blog.

What a surprise to learn that you were diagnosed with breast cancer. I am sure we can relate when it comes to the feelings/thoughts that hit you when you first found out about your diagnosis. All the tests, doctors, drugs, treatment... I'm sure you're feeling very overwhelmed just like I did. I am so happy to know that you are having treatment at Juravinski.. the nurses there are wonderful and I think my experiences with chemo were that much better due to their care. It's a top notch place!

I will look forward to keeping up to date with your blog. I wish I had done the same. I'll be praying for you and everyone around you - I know you have a wonderful support system.

Praying in Pittsburgh!!
